Starting a research career at a new institution can be daunting, but we are here to help! This symposium focuses on the basics for an investigator to start basic biomedical research at the University of Pittsburgh, including an introduction to key regulatory committees (the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee [IACUC] and the Institutional Biosafety Committee [IBC]), as well as the Department of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) and the Division of Laboratory Animal Resources (DLAR).
At the end of the symposium, investigators will be proficient in submitting protocols to the IACUC and IBC, will understand how to work effectively with EH&S, and will know how to order animals and utilize the resources of the DLAR.
This symposium is relevant for new investigators, postdocs, graduate students, and staff members who engage in basic biomedical research.
