DESCRIPTION:Historically\, engineering programs have focused on weeding out
all but the perceived brightest and best students\, believing that many s
tudents who wanted to major in engineering did not have what it takes. Whi
le engineering programs have broadened their view in recent decades of whi
ch students have potential to become engineers and dropped some overt weed
-out practices\, many of our structures\, policies\, mindsets\, and approa
ches in engineering education today still echo the weed-out philosophy.\n\
nThis workshop will facilitate an open discussion\, engage the audience an
d look at evidence-based practices to help institutions admit an array of
students and provide the type of supportive environments and experiences t
hat help them succeed.\n\nSpeaker: Dr. Jenna Carpenter\, Dean and Professo
r School of Engineering Campbell University\n\nLunch will be provided!\n\n
