Historically, engineering programs have focused on weeding out all but the perceived brightest and best students, believing that many students who wanted to major in engineering did not have what it takes. While engineering programs have broadened their view in recent decades of which students have potential to become engineers and dropped some overt weed-out practices, many of our structures, policies, mindsets, and approaches in engineering education today still echo the weed-out philosophy.

This workshop will facilitate an open discussion, engage the audience and look at evidence-based practices to help institutions admit an array of students and provide the type of supportive environments and experiences that help them succeed.

Speaker: Dr. Jenna Carpenter, Dean and Professor School of Engineering Campbell University
