Using Blackboard to Engage Your Students Online

Participants will get the most out of this workshop if they already have a basic familiarity with using Blackboard. Please bring your dual authentication device.

How can you use Blackboard to create a truly engaging, interactive, collaborative experience for your students? In this workshop, we will explore tools that can open lines of communication and collaboration between individual students, groups, and course instructors. We will discuss tools such as virtual classrooms, blogs, wikis, discussion boards, and announcements, as well as strategies to identify the different communication needs of different groups of students. This workshop meets in Alumni Hall, B26.

By the end of this workshop, you will be able to

  • Set up a virtual classroom or online office hours using Blackboard Collaborate
  • Set up and use communication tools such as announcements, notifications, and email;
  • Set up and use the collaboration tools in Blackboard such as Blogs, Wikis, Discussion Boards and Journals

This workshop may be counted toward the Online Teaching concentration of the Achievement in Pedagogy badge, offered through the Graduate Student Teaching Initiative. For more information, contact
