Unconscious Bias in Cybersecurity

Abstract: "Our brains sometimes take cognitive shortcuts that can lead to unconscious or implicit bias, with serious consequences for how we perceive and act toward other people." - Short Wave, Understanding Unconscious Bias - NPR
 
In this colloquium, we will discuss:
o    what implicit or unconscious biases are happening today
o    why it is important to understand implicit bias 
o    examples of implicit biases and ways to mitigate their effects in the workplace

Bio: Allegra B. Elson is responsible for the strategy, design, management and administration of Vibrant Pittsburgh’s diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) educational programming.  Allegra has extensive experience in teaching, facilitation, project management, and curriculum design and implementation in both nonprofit and for-profit industries. Allegra holds a Master’s degree in Italian Language and Literature from the University of Pittsburgh and a TESOL Certificate from Teachers College, Columbia University.
