This workshop introduces participants to strategies for cultivating a classroom inclusive of trans and gender nonconforming students. In this interactive workshop, participants will learn language and terminology along with information about the experiences of this diverse demographic in higher education. Facilitators will guide participants through revisions of their course syllabi with the goal of integrating a dynamic understanding of gender into their course. Please bring a syllabus with you for the workshop.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify resources for learning about trans students' strengths and challenges.
  • Discuss strategies for mitigating challenges faced by trans students.
  • Discuss concrete classroom practices for cultivating a safe and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Revise syllabus to reflect a dynamic understanding of gender in your course.
