Research Ethics Consultation Service Case Series
Marion Danis, MD
Former Bioethics Consultation Service Chief
Department of Bioethics
National Institutes of Health Clinical Center
Abstract: Dr. Danis will briefly discuss her perspective and experience in leading a research ethics consultation service. She will then present an ethics consultation regarding a research participant who developed an adverse event during participation in a clinical trial and requested unblinding to know whether she was assigned to the treatment or control arm of the trial. Ethical considerations regarding obligations to a research participant, preservation of scientific validity of a trial, and regulatory oversight of research will be discussed.
The University of Pittsburgh’s Research Ethics Consultation Service (RECS) serves the entire research ecosystem at Pitt.
