African American Alumni Council (AAAC) 50th Commemoration Weekend – Part of Homecoming 2019
Honoring Rising African American Alumni Rising Leaders Award and Distinguished members of the Black Greek Community.
In 1969, the Black Action Society took the bold step to have their voices heard, which resulted in the computer center take over. From that moment to now, Pitt African American alumni have made steady progress and made their mark on history. From Black leaders to rising alumni stare, we honor the pride that they bring to Pitt and the Black Community.
The African American Alumni Council (AAAC) last year kicked off the 50-year commemoration of the 1969 computer center takeover, which led to the forming of Pitt’s Africana Studies program, the recruitment and hiring of more students, staff and faculty of color, and which actualized the Black Action Society’s fight for progress for the African American community at Pitt and in the greater Pittsburgh area.
