Join the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and the Pitt Law Incarcerated Persons Legal Support Project for a screening of The Strike, an award-winning documentary about the California Prison Hunger Strike, the largest prisoner hunger strike in U.S. history.

Described by The New York Times as a film that shows how “collective action leads to prison reform,” The Strike aired nationally on PBS and highlights the power of organized resistance within the prison system.

The screening will be followed by a discussion featuring:

  • Jack Morris, a Latino prisoner featured in the film who spent more than 30 years in solitary confinement in California

  • Dolores Canales, a leader of family members supporting hunger strikers, also featured in the film, who spent 20 years incarcerated in California

  • Professor Jules Lobel, lead counsel for the prisoners portrayed in the film in the related class action lawsuit
