DESCRIPTION:Join the World History Center for a roundtable conversation mod
erated by Alissa Klots (History) and Elizabeth Mulvaney (Social Work) on t
he global history of aging. \n\nRapid population aging is a modern phenome
non that has been transforming societies across the globe. Scholars and th
e general public alike ponder the consequences of the economic\, political
\, and cultural changes brought on by this demographic shift. However\, we
still lack comprehensive treatments that compare and connect developments
in different parts of the world\, which is why the history of aging is st
ill Western-centric. Roundtable participants will present their research o
f different aspects of aging from the role of grandparents in modern socie
ties to the place of technology in accommodating older people across the g
lobe. \n\nCo-sponsored by Global Studies Center\, Center for Latin America
n Studies\, Center for African Studies\, Center for Russian\, East Europea
n\, and Eurasian Studies\, and the Asian Studies Center.
