About this Event
230 S Bouquet St, Pittsburgh, PA 15213
Join the World History Center for a roundtable conversation moderated by Alissa Klots (History) and Elizabeth Mulvaney (Social Work) on the global history of aging.
Rapid population aging is a modern phenomenon that has been transforming societies across the globe. Scholars and the general public alike ponder the consequences of the economic, political, and cultural changes brought on by this demographic shift. However, we still lack comprehensive treatments that compare and connect developments in different parts of the world, which is why the history of aging is still Western-centric. Roundtable participants will present their research of different aspects of aging from the role of grandparents in modern societies to the place of technology in accommodating older people across the globe.
Co-sponsored by Global Studies Center, Center for Latin American Studies, Center for African Studies, Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies, and the Asian Studies Center.
