Conflict can be difficult to navigate, endure, or even confront, and often repercussions of conflict lead to changes in how we move through, think about, and live in the world. Indeed, social and psychological impacts of conflict remain with individuals when they enter the classroom to learn and teach. As educators, it’s important that we consider ways we can support students and care for ourselves during times of conflict, drawing from a range of pedagogies to meet the various needs in our classroom. In this workshop, we will discuss strategies for teaching and learning during times of conflict, exploring frameworks like global/intercultural pedagogies, trauma-informed pedagogies, and resilient pedagogies, and reflecting on ways we can both teach during and learn from conflict along with our students.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify methods for addressing conflicts in ways that align with learning goals for your classroom
  • Practice utilizing strategies from various pedagogical frameworks to navigate teaching and learning during times of conflict
  • Discuss strategies for teaching during times of conflict with other educators, sharing knowledge, experiences, and perspectives
