TEACH-IN

This is a past event.

We are excited to invite you all to a teach-in event celebrating trans scholarship taking place this Tuesday from 4:30-7pm in a couple of the 1008 seminar rooms. The structure is a roundtable, where there are some scheduled speakers and time allotted for Q&A (see below) but also time for sharing lived experiences around doing trans scholarship within and outside of the academy. Here is what’s scheduled:

  • A pre-teach-in reception with some refreshments. (4:30-5pm)
  • Nikki Ernst reading a contribution from Quill Kukla (a Pitt alum) on livable communities for trans folks, followed by some commentary and Q&A/open discussion. (5-6pm)
  • A panel consisting of Professor B.R. George (CMU), Professor Danielle Wenner (CMU), T. Virgil Murthy (CMU), and S. Brook Corfman (Pitt), followed by a Q&A/open discussion. (6-7pm)

Worth noting is that this event is meant not only to be supportive of trans students and faculty but is also an opportunity for allies like myself to listen and learn. Coming together to celebrate trans scholarship is especially important given that, just up the road, anti-trans campaigners will be debating whether ‘transgenderism should be regulated by law’. So, I highly encourage your support and participation regardless of your gender-identity.
