Join the Office of Sustainability in the Health Sciences for their September Planetary Health Journal Club.

Modern medicine runs on single use. Most of what touches a patient is used once and thrown away, and health care's resulting footprint now causes disease burden on the scale of preventable medical errors. This session asks a design question: how did the disposable become the default, and how do engineers build the way out? We'll look at the problem honestly and then at devices that reimagine it, from a solar-powered system that outperformed the conventional standard of care to materials designed to break down safely instead of lingering as waste. Aimed at anyone who wants to design medicine that heals people without harming the planet.
