Social Media and Student Activism in Black Lives Matter Movement

Presenters: Ying-Tung (Ivy) Chou

This workshop aims to analyze cases of college students' digital activism on social media platforms in the Black Lives Matter movement. Through analyzing these cases through lens of student development theories, professionals who work directly with college students will gain a more updated understanding of students' collective identity development in digital spaces that are intertwined with the traditional college campus. The workshop will end with a discussion activity that encourages participants to reflect their roles in higher ed and how they can support students' activism on social media platforms.
