Staff Council welcomes Staff Council Spotlight: Lisa Lang, Director of Ombuds Services for Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences and College of General Studies

Lisa Lang is the inaugural Director of Ombuds Services for the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences and the College of General Studies at the University of Pittsburgh. She holds a BS in Psychology and an MSW from Pitt and is a licensed social worker in Pennsylvania. A certified workplace mediator and trainer, Lisa specializes in conflict resolution and organizational communication. 

With 33 years of service at Pitt, her experience spans leadership roles in the School of Medicine, Public Health, and Arts and Sciences. In her current role, she provides confidential, impartial support to faculty, staff, students, and postdocs, focusing on mediation, conflict resolution, and navigating formal reporting channels. 

 

Presentation Focus:

There are many ombudspersons at Pitt who support students in their respective schools. Lisa’s office was created to support faculty, staff, students, and post-docs. This presentation will focus on the types of services available to staff through an ombuds office and what an ombuds can and can’t do. Formal reporting channels, mediation and conflict resolution skill building will also be discussed.
