Lisa Cencia Rohan, PhD, is a professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy and a leader in pharmaceutical sciences focused on drug delivery and product development. She is also affiliated with the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences in the School of Medicine, the Clinical Translational Science Institute, and the Magee-Womens Research Institute. With over 30 years of experience in pharmaceutical product development, including several years in the pharmaceutical industry, her current research focuses on product development in the areas of women’s health and infectious diseases, with an emphasis on developing innovative dosage forms and translational strategies that bridge academic discovery with real-world applications. Her laboratory is dedicated to "transforming global health through pharmaceutical innovation," and her team has successfully developed over 50 pharmaceutical products, with 14 of them being translated from the bench to the clinic. The team’s priority is developing pharmaceutical products which are acceptable, affordable, scalable and deliverable to address global health needs. She directs a highly collaborative laboratory that has trained nearly 200 individuals across all levels, reflecting her strong commitment to mentorship and workforce development. Dr. Rohan’s work integrates formulation science, biorelevant modeling, and regulatory considerations to advance safe, effective therapies, including solutions tailored for low-resource settings.

Dr. Rohan holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from West Virginia University and a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy, where she also completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Mucosal Immunology
