About this Event
Participants can read their own or their favorite poems or read or perform a spoken word piece. Pitt students-- this is your event!
Spoken word is a broad designation for poetry intended for performance. Though some spoken word poetry may also be published on the page, the genre has its roots in oral traditions and performance. Spoken word can encompass or contain elements of rap, hip-hop, storytelling, theater, and jazz, rock, blues, and folk music and is characterized by rhyme, repetition, improvisation, and word play. Related to slam poetry, spoken word may draw on music, sound, dance, or other kinds of performance to connect with audiences.
Spoken word is a great way to express your truth to others through poetry and performance. Compose the piece using literary devices like alliteration, repetition, and rhyme to tell your story, or theme.
Pittsburgh campus undergraduate students may sign up at www.pittarts.org. A zoom link and password will be sent via email prior to the event.
