"Signs of Disability" with Stephanie Kerschbaum

Friday, January 17, 2025 2:00pm to 3:30pm

In this presentation, Stephanie Kerschbaum will share her concept of "signs of disability" and dis-attention, inviting attendees to engage in various reflective activities while thinking through what it means to notice disability in a range of everyday contexts. Specifically, she'll showcase some common examples of signs of disability and share a subset of images of yellow diamond-shaped signs she has collected to think through what these signs communicate--directly and indirectly--about disability and how we are encouraged to notice (or not-notice) it. She'll conclude by suggesting how we might resist ableist messaging and notice disability in other ways through dis-attention.
