DESCRIPTION:Mitochondrial Import-Coupled Stress Response\n\n`A fine system
to singal from mitochondria to the cytosol`\n\nAccumulating evidence indica
tes that mitochondrial import of certain proteins is precisely regulated in
response to environmental changes and various external/internal insults. I
mportantly\, in many of these cases\, the regulation of mitochondrial impor
t is utilized as a communication tool between mitochondria and other cellul
ar compartments to evoke appropriate responses. In this seminar\, as an exa
mple of this sophisticated mitochondrial stress-sensing mechanism\, our rec
ent work that identified a novel mitochondria-resident iron responsive path
way and its importance in erythroid physiology will be discussed.
