Mitochondrial Import-Coupled Stress Response
`A fine system to singal from mitochondria to the cytosol`
Accumulating evidence indicates that mitochondrial import of certain proteins is precisely regulated in response to environmental changes and various external/internal insults. Importantly, in many of these cases, the regulation of mitochondrial import is utilized as a communication tool between mitochondria and other cellular compartments to evoke appropriate responses. In this seminar, as an example of this sophisticated mitochondrial stress-sensing mechanism, our recent work that identified a novel mitochondria-resident iron responsive pathway and its importance in erythroid physiology will be discussed.
