In 2019, the University of Pittsburgh Department of Bioengineering established a Distinguished Lectureship in honor of Professor Savio Woo. The Distinguished Speaker for the 2025 Savio L-Y. Woo Lectureship will be Dr. Roger Kamm, PhD, Cecil H. Green Distinguished Professor from MIT.
This will be a two-day event (Thursday and Friday), with two presentations.
On Thursday, September 4 at 4:00 PM in Benedum 157 (followed by a reception), there will be a research presentation on Complex in vitro models to study transport in the healthy and diseased neurovascular system.
On Friday September 5, there will be a more informal presentation/discussion about Translational research: Balancing academic productivity with technology commercialization that is primarily aimed at students, fellows, and junior faculty and focuses on career and professional development issues.
Speaker Bio:
Dr. Roger Kamm, PhD, Cecil H. Green Distinguished Professor, MIT.
Professor Roger D. Kamm is the Cecil and Ida Green Distinguished Professor of Biological and Mechanical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the co-founder of AIM Biotech, a manufacturer of microfluidic systems for 3D culture. His research focuses on problems at the interface of biology and mechanics, formerly in cell and molecular mechanics, and now in engineered living systems. His current interests are in developing models of healthy and diseased organ function using microfluidic technologies, with a focus on vascularization, cancer and neurological disease. Professor Kamm is a member of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine.
