About this Event
The Research Equity and Community Health (REACH) Health Equity Seminar Series welcomes Rachel Vaughn-Coaxum, PhD, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, as its featured speaker on April 20th. Dr. Vaughn-Coaxum will present a talk titled "Considering context and language in clinical diagnostic interviews for depression with diverse youth populations".
During the first half of the seminar, Dr. Andrea Weinstein, PhD will facilitate a journal club discussion about a recent article titled "Traversing the Aging Research and Health Equity Divide: Toward Intersectional Frameworks of Research Justice and Participation" by Gilmore-Bykovskyi et al (2022).
REACH invites investigators and research staff of all career stages and health equity research experience to participate in our ongoing monthly seminar. Because our virtual seminars are designed to foster active participation and discussion, we strongly encourage attendees to turn their cameras on and join in the conversation. The first half of each seminar will be spent discussing 1. newly published or seminal articles related to determinants of health inequities or 2. Important topics such as “ways to reduce bias in your scientific method” and “how can we change systems through our research.” The second half of each seminar will showcase research being conducted within our department to grow collaborations, generate innovative ideas, and provide constructive feedback to support the professional growth of the presenter.
For more information about how to participate in our monthly virtual seminar, please contact Dr. Mary Woody at woodyml@upmc.edu.
