Public Health Grand Rounds | Pitt's Journey to Carbon Neutrality by 2037

Please join the Department of Environmental & Occupational Health as we present Public Health Grand Rounds to provide socialization opportunities to our faculty and students to the broader profession of public health through engagement in substantive programs on a wide range of topics that reflect the breadth of public health. On September 17th (1:00-2:30 pm), we will have Drs. Aurora Sharrard and Melissa Bilec from the University of Pittsburgh Office of Sustainability (www.sustainable.pitt.edu) and Mascaro Center for Sustainable Innovation (www.engineering.pitt.edu/MCSI/) for a joint discussion of the Pitt Climate Action Plan.

The University of Pittsburgh is committed to cutting in half its 2008 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by the year 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2037. Pitt’s 2019 GHG Inventory indicates that emissions are already down 21.2%, but what are the strategies and academic opportunities moving forward – and how can we ensure equitable outcomes and economic resilience? Drs. Sharrard and Bilec will showcase the past, present, and future of Pitt’s GHG mitigation efforts and take questions during this deep dive into one of the University’s many sustainability efforts.
