Pitt AuD Friday Audiology Seminar Series

This is a past event.

Utilizing Speech-to-Text Resources to Improve Communication

Presented by: Amanda Ortmann, Ph.D. & Amanda Demas, B.S.

This presentation will provide an overview of speech-to-text transcription (STT) resources available for clinicians and hearing-impaired patients. Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been an increase in the use of protective face masks that has deleterious consequences for
hearing-impaired patients who rely on speech reading to understand spoken speech. Clear masks are either not readily available or adopted, leaving patients and clinicians trying to find alternative ways to increase speech understanding.

Amanda Ortmann has no financial or non-financial relationships to disclose.
Amanda Demas has no financial or non-financial relationships to disclose.

After this seminar, participants will be able to:

  • List at least 3 different forms of STT software
  • Explain why machine learning is critical to STT
  • Implement STT technology in clinical practice

Friday, December 4 at 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.
