Growth Through Knowledge & Understanding Series: Biases, Hate Crimes, and Marginalized People

This is a past event.

Pitt-Greensburg Student Involvement and the Westmoreland Diversity Coalition are partnering again this semester to bring the community together for five conversations that comprise the Growth Through Knowledge and Understanding Series.

These sessions will focus on the lived experiences of people who have traditionally been the targets of biases and hate crimes thus becoming marginalized in society.

The topics to be covered are more than race, gender, sexual orientation, or religion (which will be major topics) but will include victims of crime, physical and mental disabilities, the previously incarcerated, and others.

This series is free and open to the public. Register to receive the URL to log into these webinars:

  • Sept. 14 -- "Judaism," featuring Andrew Goretsky, EdD, of ADL Cleveland;
  • Sept. 28 -- "Hispanic Populations," featuring Monica Ruiz, executive director of Casa San Jose;
  • Oct. 12 -- "Women," featuring Kristin Malone-Boadair, of the Blackburn Center;
  • Oct. 19 -- "Previously Incarcerated," featuring Tim Holler, PhD,  associate professor of criminal justice at Pitt-Greensburg and director of the Community Arts Reintegration Project;
  • Nov. 9 -- "Physical and Mental Disabilities," featuring a representative of the Disability Options Network.
