Dr. Adam Lee Cilli, assistant professor of history, will moderate a conversation with Dr. Jenifer Barclay, the author of The Mark of Slavery: Disability, Race, and Gender in Antebellum America.

In her book, Dr. Barclay examines the ubiquitous narratives in antebellum America that depicted Black people with disabilities as pitiable, monstrous, or comical--narratives used not only to defend slavery but also to argue against it. Join the discussion during this lunchtime event.

This event is sponsored by the Academic Village.
