Join faculty and graduate students for a panel discussion to unpack the origins and political ramifications of Peru’s recent removal of former president Pedro Castillo, who attempted to dissolve the Congress, and the explosion of protests that are desperately seeking change but repressed by police forces. Confirmed panelists: Omar Coronel - PhD in Political Science from Notre Dame. He is a professor of Political Science in the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PCUP). He does research on protest and repression in Peru. Carmen Ilizarbe - PhD in Politics and MA in Political Science from the New School for Social Research in New York, current appointment at Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, Lima (PUCP). This year she published the book "La democracia y la calle" (Democracy and the Street). Scott Morgenstern will moderate.
