A Pitt Dental Medicine Continuing Dental Education Course

Presented by Michael Glogauer, DDS, PhD, Dip Perio, FCAHS.
Dr. Glogauer is an internationally-recognized dental clinician scientist and leader in the fields of dentistry, oral immunity, oral diseases, alveolar bone grafting and the links between oral health and systemic health. He completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School (1999-2001). He is a professor at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto (since 2002), Head of Dentistry for University Health Network, Chief of Dental Oncology at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and owner of OMGPerio, a periodontal and dental implant practice in Hamilton, Ontario.

This course will review how oral leukocytes are key clinical biomarkers of oral inflammation, the role of an oral leukocyte count as an effective screening tool for oral inflammation similar to a white blood cell count serving as a screening tool for infection, how oral inflammation impacts the systemic immune response and the future or screening for oral inflammation in the dental setting.
