DESCRIPTION:This session introduces the Mentoring Academy. The first of thr
 ee will provide an opportunity to discuss the roles of mentors and mentees
  and cover the first of four competencies in the Mentoring Academy (Introd
 uction\, Communication\, Aligning Expectations\, and Assessing Understandi
 ng). Participants will have an opportunity to discuss the principles of ef
 fective mentoring through interactive case studies. Participants can atten
 d one or all sessions to complete all eight competencies based on the Cent
 er for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research (CIMER) curricu
 lum.\n\nParticipants will be able to:\n\nIdentify mentor/mentee roles.Enga
 ge in active listening.Provide constructive feedback.Communicate effective
 ly across diverse dimensions.Identify communication styles. Engage in acti
 ve listening.Establish\, communicate\, and align mutually beneficial expec
 tations in mentoring relationships.Consider personal and professional (inc
 luding disciplinary) differences that may influence expectations. \n\nGues
