Learn how to use gel printing plates to make monoprints with 2D objects like leaves, flower petals, pine needles, or objects around your house.

This workshop guides you through basic printing techniques: mixing and adding color, using objects to create shapes, and getting impressions of 2D objects. If you’re interested in printmaking, this is an easy and budget-friendly way to start experimenting.

Prior to the workshop, you will have access to a video that shows you how to make your own print plate. For the workshop, you’ll need the following:

  • your gel print plate
  • paint or printmaking ink
  • several sheets of paper (thicker than printer paper preferred)
  • tape
  • brayer, brush, and/or palette knife (only one is needed)
  • any 2D objects you’d like to print with (like leaves, petals, etc.)
  • small (1” or so) pieces of cardboard
  • objects that can make impressions of shapes (like an old lid or a jar)
