GSPIA's Wherrett Lecture series presents Professor Emerita Kathleen Staudt of the University of Texas at El Paso who will focus on the everyday leadership in the context and grounding of the central borderlands, taking a look at the US-Mexico border from an up close and personal perspective in the El Paso community and expanding on its local, binational, national, and global implications for border policy. 

Staudt's research interests, published in over 100 journal articles and chapters in books, include borders, women/gender in international development, immigration, education, activism and violence. Staudt has authored and edited twenty books, nine of which focus on the U.S.-Mexico border. She is also the founder of the Center for Civic Engagement, which she directed for 10 years. 

This is the 39th event presented by GSPIA’s Wherrett Lecture series. Established in 1955, the series brings together leaders from academia, government, and the nonprofit and private sectors to discuss issues faced by metropolitan regions.
