Abstract:  Mistakes happen and it is said that honesty is always the best policy.  However, when it comes to disclosing medical errors it is not always easy to navigate “what is required” vs. “what is right” when disclosing an adverse event. During this session we will discuss the ethics associated with disclosing adverse events to patients and explore the associated regulatory, legal, and professional considerations for disclosure and the best ways to communicate “bad news” to patients and families during this process.
