Keeping Students Accountable with Top Hat

For instructors already familiar with Top Hat’s most commonly used student polling functionality, we will explore other Top Hat features to keep students engaged and accountable in your class. Using Top Hat, instructors can follow-up on low performing questions from previous classes, assign homework or provide materials for review, and analyze weekly course reports. Top Hat's student engagement software is now available for all faculty and students at Pitt to use free of charge.

You should be able to log in to the Pitt Portal (https://my.pitt.edu) with your Pitt username and password. Please bring your dual authentication device.

By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Find and copy low-performing questions from previous week into next week's lecture folder
  • Create simple homework assignment in Pages
  • Review samples of the Weekly Course Report, along with a responses view of Pages
  • Enable and launch secure attendance
  • Hide question details (to promote attendance)
  • Incorporate comprehension checks throughout slide presentations
