As public health students, you may already know that "population health" extends well beyond the medical system and includes much more than physicians treating patients. Even within the medical system, the health and well-being of patients relies upon a holistic approach that uses multidisciplinary and interprofessional teams of health professionals...or at least it should.

During the forum, you'll be assigned to small groups of students from other schools of the health sciences to observe a simulated scenario and then discuss the care of patients through an interprofessional team. this event is required for first-year health professional students from medicine, nursing, pharmacy, dental medicine, and health and rehabilitation sciences.

After participating in the Interprofessional forum, learners should be able to:

  • Describe the areas of expertise of various health professionals who provide patient care.
  • Discuss the importance of teamwork among health care providers from the patient's perspective.
  • Consider the importance of teamwork among professionals to the care of the patient, and the positive effect IP teams can have in responding to limitations imposed by social determinants of health and structural racism.

Register by September 30 by contacting Cindy Bryce, associate dean for enrollment.
