According to some Ojibwe traditions, the dreamcatcher is a gift from Grandmother Spider. Traditionally, the woven web is said to filter dreams, allowing good dreams and thoughts to pass through while catching those that may bring harm or unrest.

Join facilitators from the Council of Three Rivers American Indian Center (COTRAIC) for a hands-on dreamcatcher-making workshop. Participants will learn about the cultural significance and traditions associated with dreamcatchers while creating their own piece under the guidance of COTRAIC facilitators.

As you create, consider: What hopes, intentions, or dreams might your dreamcatcher reflect?

This workshop is intended to promote cultural appreciation, respect, and understanding through learning directly from members of the local Native community and engaging with traditional crafting practices in a thoughtful and respectful setting.

No prior crafting experience is required. Participants of all skill levels are welcome, and all materials will be provided.

This workshop is facilitated by members of the Council of Three Rivers American Indian Center (COTRAIC) and sponsored by Pitt Wellbeing, the Center for Creativity, and the Office of Residence Life.
