Date: Wednesday, March 12, 2025
Time: 12 – 2 p.m.
Location: Posvar Hall, 5601
Speaker: Dr. Asif Wilson, Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign College of Education
Talk Description: Launched by Dr. Asif Wilson in 2022, the Social Studies Network aims to cultivate more inquiry-based and justice-centered teaching and learning experiences in K-12 classrooms. With a reach of over 500,000 students and nearly 7,000 educators across Illinois, the Social Studies Network has made a large impact on practice in a short amount of time. During this presentation, Wilson will share more about the Social Studies Network’s founding, programming, funding, and research efforts. In doing so, Wilson will elicit memories and analyses of his praxes navigating the emergent tensions between scholarship deemed appropriate by the academy and the wants and needs of the communities Wilson is in partnership with.
