Inspired by the national social justice movement in the spring of 2020, the Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine has developed a novel curriculum for engagement in social justice called IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Action) Rounds. As learners and leaders within our community, we center on the identity of our patients, families, and colleagues as we pursue equitable, inclusive, and culturally responsive care for all. The framework of monthly IDEA Rounds is the ARC (awareness, relationship, and commitment) model of social justice. Each session focuses on a specific topic and is facilitated by members of the division. Through focused discussion panels, IDEA Rounds also create space to listen and learn from community members, patients, families, and colleagues within our most impacted communities. The aim of IDEA rounds is not just to improve education and awareness but also to impact change through commitment to action. We will facilitate a workshop that shares the practical steps toward developing a similar curriculum in any department or division in the University. The goal of this workshop is to develop strategies for analyzing the workplace and to implement incremental steps that create open dialogue leading to change. Participants in this workshop will leave with the ability to begin working on social justice reform within themselves, their learners, their work environment, and their communities.
