How Does Global Vaccine Injustice Affect Health In Pittsburgh?

The World Trade Organization meets on May 5 to decide whether patent protections should apply to COVID-19 vaccines. World leaders and social justice advocates are pressing the US and other western governments to allow mass production of vaccines and speed global efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Why are these debates important for the health of Pittsburgh residents? Who owns the vaccine and why does it matter to us locally? How are global inequities in vaccine distribution and access mirrored in our community?  What steps would move us toward vaccine equity in a local and global context?

A panel of researchers and public health advocates offer perspectives that can inform understandings of vaccine politics and how it relates to issues of human rights, equity, and racial justice.  The panel includes Ernesto Marques, PhD; Danielle Wenner, PhD; Shannah Tharp-Gilliam, PhD; and Mary Crossley, J.D. to Register: bit.ly/2S4sFsl
