Entrepreneurship
Abstract
Many PhD students expect to follow one of two career paths: industry or academia. However, there is a less-discussed third option: entrepreneurship. In this talk, Patrick Fuller will share his story of converting academic research into a sustainable deep tech business. Pat will discuss his experience with metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) from a venture business perspective and share lessons learned about translating scientific innovation into real-world products.
Biosketch - Patrick is a technology entrepreneur focused on the application of metal-organic framework (MOF) adsorbent materials to industrial challenges. A computational engineer by training, Patrick has overseen the development of NuMat Technologies from an academic concept into a sustainable organization with over $100m in combined investment. Patrick holds an MS in Chemical Engineering from Northwestern University, has published literature articles and product patents, and maintains open-source software for modern industrial process control.
