Git and GitHub for Version Control

This is a past event.

Git is “version control” software for tracking changes in your project’s files and, if desired, for managing collaboration with other contributors. Git is especially—but not exclusively—useful for computer code and datasets. GitHub, a separate product, is a Web-based platform for hosting and disseminating Git project repositories. In this two-hour, online workshop, we’ll learn about basic Git concepts (staging, committing, branches, etc.) and apply them hands-on with an example project. We’ll also explore GitHub and use its basic functionality.

Can't make it to this workshop? You can always contact us with your questions about this and other digital scholarship topics.

This workshop is part of our Coding and Computational Methods Series.
