This workshop expands on basic principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion by offering a space for collective reflection. Participants will start the work of aligning their understanding of equitable and inclusive teaching with the design of their courses, class activities, and assessments. This workshop will introduce instructors to one key framework for inclusive and equitable course design: Universal Design for Learning (UDL). Through discussion and small group exercises, participants will identify how equity-minded practices sustain learning outcomes and foster effective teaching.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify attitudes and issues related to inclusive teaching.
  • Identify reasons for considering inclusivity in your course planning and teaching.
  • Implement inclusivity in your teaching.

This workshop may be counted towards the DEI concentration of the Achievement in Pedagogy badge, offered through the Graduate Student Teaching Initiative. For more information, contact tahelp@pitt.edu.
