Planning to use a final assessment that isn’t an exam, but not sure how to grade and offer feedback efficiently on a project or presentation in a remote course? Rubrics can help. Rubrics are versatile, help communicate your expectations to your students, and make grading and giving feedback faster and easier. In this workshop, we will discuss a few different types of rubric, how to strike a balance between creating a rubric that gives students some structure without being too prescriptive, general design best practices, and a how you can use educational technology tools like Blackboard to create and grade with rubrics.

After the workshop, you will be able to:

  • Identify different types of rubrics in order to choose the type that best serves your grading needs and your students’ learning needs
  • Design a rubric that adheres to best practices and demonstrates alignment to learning objectives, clear performance criteria, and distinct levels of performance
  • Create a rubric to use for effective remote grading and feedback

These workshops are just-in-time, focused discussions on a specific topic related to teaching remotely. All workshops will be conducted via Zoom, are approximately one hour in length, and all times are EST.
