About this Event

#BeCyberSmart Cybersecurity Speaker Series
Disinformation, often know colloquially as “fake news,” has been around for over a century, but the contemporary moment is unique due to the rise of digital technologies and social media. A pandemic is at once a medical crisis and a communication emergency so the stakes for information quality have never been higher. This Speaker Series presentation will provide historical context for and understanding about disinformation.
Presenter: Jessica Ghilani, PhD, Associate Professor of Communication, University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg, and Member of Pitt Cyber’s Disinformation Lab
