This class will explain how to evaluate the quality of a journal to ensure that it's a suitable venue for your work. Learn about industry initiatives, research misconduct policies, peer review, database inclusion criteria, predatory journals, and other issues related to scholarly publishing. Anyone is welcome to attend, however, having previous or basic publishing knowledge is helpful.

Upon completing this class, you should be able to:

• Analyze the policies and publication practices of a journal to determine its quality.
• Explain the journal inclusion criteria for databases such as PubMed, the Web of Science, and the Directory of Open Access Journals.
• Describe what a predatory journal is and be able to identify them.

Prerequisites: We recommend that you attend our "Selecting a journal: finding the right place for your work" class before taking this class.
