DESCRIPTION:Presented by: Sirry Alang\, PhD\n\nDr. Sirry Alang is the Assoc
 iate Dean for Equity and Justice\, and an Associate Professor in the Depart
 ment of Health and Human Development. She earned her Ph.D. in Health Servic
 es Research\, Policy and Administration from the University of Minnesota Sc
 hool of Public Health. She also obtained an M.A. in Sociology from Lehigh U
 niversity and a B.Sc. in Sociology and Anthropology from the University of 
 Buea in Cameroon. Dr. Alang is a medical sociologist and a health services 
 researcher interested in understanding and eliminating health inequities. \
 n\nDr. Alang's instructional interests include structural determinants of h
 ealth\, community-based participatory action research\, health services res
 earch and policy\, and health promotion\, program and policy implementation
 . \n\nDr. Alang's research explores the role of social structures and insti
 tutions in creating inequities in health status and health outcomes. She is
  interested in how racism and other structures and mechanisms of exclusion 
 shape health over the life course. To this end\, her work focuses on the de
 velopment of personal and institutional capacity to effectively engage in a
 nti-racist practice and policy/program development necessary to improve the
  health of Black populations.\n\nThe focus of the Spring 2024 Epidemiology 
 Seminar Series is Health Equity & Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion\nStude
