Abstract: Severe trauma and diseases to musculoskeletal and dermal tissues such as osteoarthritis and volumetric muscle loss have limited regenerative capacity leading to the deficit of tissue function. These wounds are commonly associated with a high health cost to the patient, disfiguration, and often a permanent handicap. Regeneration of these damaged tissues, facilitated by the application of an engineered support scaffold, alone or with the appropriate cells, will be paramount in improving the quality of life for these patients.
