Engineering Biomaterials for Tissue Regeneration

This Graduate Seminar talk will be hosted by the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering.

Pelagie M. S. Favi, Logic Technology Development Process Engineer, Intel Corporation

Abstract: Severe trauma and diseases to musculoskeletal and dermal tissues such as osteoarthritis and volumetric muscle loss have limited regenerative capacity leading to the deficit of tissue function. These wounds are commonly associated with a high health cost to the patient, disfiguration, and often a permanent handicap. Regeneration of these damaged tissues, facilitated by the application of an engineered support scaffold, alone or with the appropriate cells, will be paramount in improving the quality of life for these patients. This presentation explains three unique methods to investigate therapies, based on in vivo tissue function, for musculoskeletal and dermal tissues regeneration... more
