Abstract:
The National Science Foundation recently announced that it awarded a $25 million Spectrum Innovation Initiative grant to a consortium called SpectrumX. SpectrumX is a consortium of 40 researchers from 27 universities, including University of Pittsburgh. This talk will describe the goals, aspirations and organization of SpectrumX as well as the process of completing the proposal.
Bio:
Martin B.H. Weiss holds a PhD in engineering and public policy from Carnegie Mellon University, an M.S. in computer, information and control engineering from the University of Michigan and a B.S. in EE from Northeastern University. Prior to joining the iSchool faculty, he was a member of the technical staff at Bell Telephone Laboratories and at MITRE Corporation and a senior consultant at Deloitte Haskins and Sells. He has performed techno–economic research in telecommunications and telecommunications policy over the past 20 years, most recently cooperative secondary use of electromagnetic spectrum and the governance of blockchain systems.
