Developing a DEI Statement

A DEI statement concisely articulates your values, experiences, and commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion. A DEI statement supplements your teaching philosophy statement by more precisely communicating to institutions how your pedagogical practices support diverse learning populations.

This workshop consists of two parts, an online, asynchronous component that must be completed at least a week before the workshop (April 5, by midnight), and a synchronous meeting via Zoom.

This workshop may be counted toward the DEI concentration of the Achievement in Pedagogy badge, offered through the Graduate Student Teaching Initiative. For more information, please contact tahelp@pitt.edu.

By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Identify key elements of your commitment to inclusive and equitable teaching that support positive institutional outcomes.
  • Clearly articulate how your expertise and experiences inform teaching strategies that support diverse learning communities.
  • Incorporate direction and feedback for improvement of your drafted DEI statement.

Dial-In Information

Please register to attend. You will receive an email with the Zoom meeting link. Participants must sign in with the SSO (single sign-on) option using their official University username and password when joining the meeting.

Please contact workshops@pitt.edu with any questions.

Friday, April 12 at 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
