Teaching portfolios are essential to many academic job applications and the promotion process. Initiating the development of a portfolio early in your teaching career is highly advisable. While teaching portfolios vary widely, this workshop aims to outline essential guidelines and follow fundamental strategies to help you build a portfolio that effectively showcases your teaching experience, achievements, and potential. Whether you are just beginning to teach or preparing to enter the job market, this workshop equips you with tools to compile and refine your most compelling teaching portfolio.

By the end of this workshop, students will be able to:

  • Identify the essential characteristics of a teaching portfolio
  • Make decisions about portfolio contents, structure, and framing based on an understanding of its likely audience
  • Strategically compile teaching materials for use in a teaching portfolio
  • Streamline information for a more impactful presentation in a teaching portfolio

This workshop may be counted toward the Professional Development concentration of the Achievement in Pedagogy badge, offered through the Graduate Student Teaching Initiative.
